Among the techniques I use for expression, there's a method where I mix opaque watercolors for coloring and then add details with colored pencils. The gentle touch of colored pencils adds clarity to the picture, and the dense color of opaque watercolors allows me to achieve a rich color palette similar to oil painting.
I believe 'Mute,' created using this coloring technique, played a role in transforming content and subjects that might have felt somewhat rigid into something warmer and softer. Before drawing this picture, I preferred a freer painting technique. However, I began to question why I was trying to create something similar to others and made an effort to draw something unique to me.
How can I accurately convey the message I want through my artwork? Is there a more sensory way to express the same content? Throughout the winter, I constantly posed these questions to myself. The picture I fought passionately to create is none other than 'Mute.' If I hadn't undertaken this work, would I have received the '2016 Bologna Illustrator of the Year' award? So, I want to say that 'Mute' is a truly meaningful book and one that holds a special place in my heart.
